A native of Seoul,
Korea, Hyunjoo Kim earned her B.A. degree from Chung Ang University as a
scholarship recipient in February of 1996. During her four years at Chung Ang University, she took part in many master classes and international music
festivals. In 1994, she participated in the Mozarteum International Music
Festival in Salzburg, Austria, and in 1996 she attended the Aspen Summer
Music Festival in Colorado. In November of 1995, she performed at Chopin
Hall in Seoul, Korea, and in 1993, she was the featured artist at the Annual
University Concert, sponsored by the Dean of the Music Department at Chung
Ang University. She also performed as a chamber musician and as a soloist in
many concerts held by the University during her four years as an
undergraduate student.
After receiving her B.A. in
Music Performance from Chung Ang University in 1996, Ms. Kim came to the
United States to pursue a Master’s degree in Music Performance at New York
University. She began the NYU Master’s program in January of 1997 and
completed her degree in January of 1999. While attending NYU as a Master’s
student, she participated in numerous chamber concerts held at the
University, while also performing in several concerts held at various venues
around New York City as well as a concert in Bulgaria. They include: a
February 1999 solo recital at Steinway Hall, a May 1998 solo recital at New
York University, and an October 1998 concert with the Pazarzick Symphony
Orchestra in Bulgaria. In November of 1997, she gave a solo recital at the
Frederick Loewe Theater at NYU and just a month later, in December of 1997,
she gave a concert with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra as a soloist at Merkin
Concert Hall in New York City.
Currently, Ms. Kim is a Ph.D.
candidate pursuing a doctoral degree in Music Performance at New York
University. She has studied piano with Yun Wha Lee and Hae Kyung Lee of
Chung Ang University, as well as studied chamber music with Ok Bin Im and
Chie Ho Cho of Chung Ang University and Gregory Haimovsky, formerly of New
York University. Currently, she is studying piano with Professor Fabio
Gardenal of New York University.
